Golden West College (GWC) is a community college providing two year associate of arts degrees, and lower-division classes transferable to various other colleges and universities. It is situated in Huntington Beach, California, about 35 miles south of Los Angeles, California, USA. It was established in 1965.
The objective of Golden West College is to provide affordable education in the trades, licensed trades, and skilled professions, as well as remedial and transferable lower division courses for pupils who intend to transfer to either a California State University, a campus of the University of California, or a different university.
NURSING
Nursing practice is dynamic, varied and offers so many different employment opportunities in health-care. Graduates of the Golden West College School of Nursing are employed in all area hospitals and health-care organizations. The School of Nursing is endorsed by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and authorized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
Upon Successful Completion of this curriculum, students are qualified to be awarded the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and set students for a smooth transition to a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) program. Graduates are qualified to take the National Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX).
A minimum grade of “C” or better must be achieved in all courses required for this program. Except if taken just before the semester in which they are listed below, courses must be taken in the ordered indicated. Highly recommended Advisory: Completion of Math G030 and /or placement at the college level math before entry.

The following minimum academic and other requirements must be met by prescribed deadlines by all applicants to become eligible candidates:
- Completion of the on-line nursing orientation. A confirmation page printed and attached to the application.
- High school graduate or equivalency. A copy of the HS diploma or official transcript must be submitted with the application if you do not have a college degree.
- Official transcripts from each college attended (or currently enrolled) must be attached to the application. Note: All foreign transcripts must be translated by an official agency prior to application to the Nursing Programs. This is required to evaluate equivalency of both high school education and college courses.
- The following four prerequisites need to be completed prior to submitting an application:

Biology G220
Biology G225
Biology G210
Note: Course equivalencies for courses taken at other accredited colleges will be determined as part of the admission process.
There is a 5-year recency requirement for the pre-requisite science classes. If these classes were taken more than five years ago, and there is documented work or other experiences related to the course content, please visit the School of Nursing website (www.goldenwestcollege.edu/nursing) to review the process to waive recency. If there is no documentation of this, the course must be repeated prior to filing an application.
