Nursing Program
The ASN curriculum is built to produce a qualified entry-level graduate nurse who exhibits professional behaviors, communication skills, clinical decision-making skills, teaching and learning capabilities, assessment skills, caring interventions and collaboration skills with the inter-professional team when managing care for clients. The curriculum emphasizes an education based on the college’s pupil learning goals which promote diversity in a technologically improved environment to include distance learning delivery strategies.
The belief of the Georgia Highlands College Associate Degree Nursing Training program is congruent with the belief of Georgia Highlands College to maintain a teaching/learning environment which promotes inclusiveness as well as provides educational opportunities, programs and also services of excellence as a reaction to identified needs. The Georgia Highlands College Nursing Training program was founded in 1971 based on the uncovered need to provide a 2-year nursing degree for the citizens of Floyd District and surrounding towns.
The ASN curriculum offers a strong educational foundation to prepare graduates to take the licensure examination for an RN and practice as an entry level professional nurse. The faculty is committed to preparing associate degree nurses who are skilled, caring professionals who possess powerful communication abilities. This is congruent with the key components and abilities as highlighted in the Outcomes as well as Competencies for Graduates of Associate Degree Programs of Nursing created by the National League for Nursing. The main goal of nursing education is to prepare pupils for employment as skilled, registered nurses who are competent to improve client movement along the continuum to their optimal state of well-being or health.

Georgia Highlands College widely known as Georgia Highlands is a 2-year associate degree-granting unit of the University System of Georgia, USA, also offering bachelor degrees in nursing and also dental hygiene. Georgia Highlands College serves Northwest Georgia, United States of America, with venues in Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, Douglasville, and also Dallas.
Founded in 1968 and started in 1970 as Floyd Junior College, the institution was initially named for Floyd District, of which Rome is the district seat, which was in turn called after John Floyd. It was later shortened to Floyd College. In April 2005, the Georgia Board of Regents nominated to modify the school’s name, and on August 1, 2005, the institution formally became Georgia Highlands College (GHC) to revert the regional nature of the population it serves.
The college supports varsity basketball teams for males and females, along with male’s baseball and female’s softball teams.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- Students are admitted to the RN program once a year in the fall. Admission is highly competitive. Applicants are ranked according to an admission score that is based on grades in the core courses, TEAS V scores, and SAT Math and Critical Reading scores.
- Because the nursing program is a time consuming, challenging program with both theory and clinical components, students are encouraged to complete as many of the general academic requirements as possible prior to beginning the program in order to maximize success. The required nursing courses are nine (9) semester hours each which is the equivalent of 3 general academic courses. It is difficult to schedule additional classes with the nursing courses unless they are at night or online.
- Courses that students are encouraged to complete prior to entering the nursing program include English, Math, the Biologies and PSYC 2103 Human Growth and Development. Students who enter the RN program in the fall have the opportunity to take additional courses during the summer semester between the first and second year of nursing courseS.
- A $30 non-refundable application fee (different from the application fee to the college) is required.
