The Associate Degree training program has been certified by the Accreditation Commission for Nursing Education (ACEN). Pupils can head to BSN coursework upon earning their Associate Degree in Nursing before they sit and take the NCLEX but must have their Registered Nurse (RN) license to take baccalaureate level nursing classes. The associate degree in nursing training program is offered at Galen College of Nursing’s Cincinnati, Ohio. For Licensed Practical Nurses who wish to become Registered Nurses (RNs), we offer Licensed Practical Nurse to ADN Advanced Standing alternative for your continued education and also professional growth.
About The School
Galen College of Nursing is a non-public nursing school with several locations in the United States. The institution was founded in Louisville, Kentucky, by Humana Inc., in the year 1990, and was formerly referred to as Galen Health Institutes. The college formerly offered only a one (1) year licensed practical nurse (LPN) training program in Louisville, San Antonio, Texas, and St. Petersburg, Florida.
In the year 2005, the institution obtained accreditation from the Council on Occupational Education which would permit it to offer the two (2) year Associate of Science in nursing degree which would allow graduates to turn into registered nurses (RNs). With regards to these changes, the institution adopted its present name, Galen College of Nursing.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
Admission to our nursing degree programs is selective and based upon available facilities and resources in the community and within Galen.
- Submit an application
- be able to communicate effectively in English;
- be a high school graduate or hold a GED;
- successfully pass a qualifying entrance examination;
- and satisfactorily pass a criminal background screening prior to the start of classes. Our clinical partners have requirements to work in a real-world health care setting that Galen students must meet. The criminal background screening fee is non-refundable
- Take the NLN PAX Exam- The NLN PAX is the College’s official entrance examination. The NLN PAX is a standardized entrance exam for potential nursing students who seek admittance into nursing schools nationwide. Applicants may be granted acceptance into the College based upon equivalent entrance test scores on other qualifying examinations, including the HESI A2, Multilevel PAX, and TEAS.
- Submit transcripts and nursing license (if applicable):
For students applying to degree programs and/or requesting transfer credits, submit official, applicable transcripts.
If you are already an LPN who’s applying for our Advanced-Standing Dual-Track LPN to BSN, submit an official LPN transcript reflecting a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
You must provide proof of current, active, unencumbered PN licensure. However, PN licensure is a course registration requirement for NUR 167 Integrated Concepts of Registered Nursing Practice.
