Nursing program

- S.N Traditional degree is for pupils who are NOT currently Registered Nurses and want to obtain a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
- S.N Second Bachelor’s degree is for students who are presently NOT licensed Registered Nurses, however, hold a Baccalaureate Degree in another field and also want to obtain a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. The program runs for five successive semesters; including summer.
- BSN Completion degree is for pupils who are presently licensed Registered Nurses (usually with a diploma or even Associates Degree) who want to attain a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. The program is offered in a hybrid (each course is a blend of in-seat and web-based) format at select off-campus locations and hospitals.

Applicants are considered for selection into the BSN Program upon completion of the following pre-admission courses and submission of official transcripts from all other colleges and universities. TOEFL scores are required if English is a second language (to meet university requirements). It is the responsibility of the applicant to assure that all materials have been submitted to the School of Nursing by the application deadline date.
The following pre-requisite courses (or transfer equivalencies) are required for application to the BSN program:
- ANTH 135 – Introduction to Cultural Anthropology | GEGA or GEKS 3 hrs or SOCL 105 – Introductory Sociology | GEKS 3 hrs
- CHEM 120 – Fundamentals of Organic and Biochemistry | GEKN 4 hrs
- NURS 261 – Aging to Infancy: A Life Course Retrospective 3 hrs or DTC 261 – Aging to Infancy: A Life Course Retrospective 3 hrs or EDPS 325 – Life Span Human Growth and Development 4 hrs or IHHS 260 – Aging to Infancy: A Life Course Retrospective 3 hrs
- PSY 101 – General Psychology Lecture | GEKN 3 hrs
- Quantitative Reasoning | GEQR course to meet university requirements
- WRTG 121 – Composition II: Researching the Public Experience | GEEC 3 hrs (or ENGL 121) One course combination from the following
- SPMD 201 – Human Anatomy 3 hrs and SPMD 202 – Human Physiology 3 hrs or
- BIO 251 – Human Anatomy and Physiology I 4 hrs and BIO 252 – Human Anatomy and Physiology II 4 hrs
Important Notes
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the pre-requisite courses is required.
- Chemistry, anatomy, or physiology courses older than 10 years are not accepted.
- If chemistry, anatomy or physiology courses are re-taken, the grades from the first two attempts only are used to calculate the GPA.
- ATI-TEAS may be re-taken only twice per calendar year. The minimum scores needed to earn points for EMU’s BSN application are:
- Subtest Reading: 69% or better
- Subtest Math: 63% or better
- Subtest Science: 46% or better
- Subtest English: 60% or better
