  • All courses in the 3-year (6-semester) Traditional nursing training program must be taken in succession at Dominican College. The curriculum is built to prepare baccalaureate level nurses who will promote professional health care across the lifespan and also settings to all populations. The Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing comprises of 131 credits. Graduates of the Department of Nursing are afforded a multitude of work and also educational possibilities.

About the school

  • Dominican College also referred to as Dominican College of Blauvelt is an independent, 4-year and also master’s level liberal arts college, chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York, United States. It is completely certified by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, with a lot of programs holding additional specialized national accreditation.
  • The school was established in 1952 by the Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt as a 3-year liberal arts college in the Catholic tradition, offering a teacher preparation training program for religious females. Five years afterward, the school was opened to lay students. In 1967, it became completely coeducational.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission to the Traditional Program need to initially file an application with the Office of Admissions. Once acceptance into the College is complete, students may then apply to the nursing program, which conducts its own selection process. Freshmen apply to the nursing program at the end of the first year of study. Transfer students may have their college transcripts reviewed and evaluated for credits by the Office of Admissions. The following are required for consideration for entry into the nursing program (pending space available): an earned minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7; a grade of B- or better in the natural sciences; and a score is 70% or greater on the TEAS basic skills assessment test.

Prerequisites

All candidates for the Traditional nursing program must take English and Mathematics Placement Tests as specified by the Office of Admissions. College math and English courses must be taken as determined by the placement test results. Chemistry for Healthcare Professionals, Biochemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology I and II must be successfully completed with a B- minimum prior to acceptance into the nursing. Additionally, Freshman Seminar, General Psychology II, Speech, and Transitions to Nursing are suggested divisional requirements for entry into nursing.
