Nursing Program

The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum at Davidson County Community College provides skill, knowledge, and strategies to incorporate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in a changing ecosystem, and to fulfill personal needs which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential. The Associate Degree Nursing training program comprises of 3 options: Traditional Associate Degree Nursing, LPN to Associate Degree Nursing and the RIBN option.

Pupils in the Associate Degree Nursing training program learn by engaging in class, campus lab and also clinical and clinical in health-care organizations. The Davidson County Community College Associate Degree Nursing training program makes use of problem-based learning (PBL) as its main teaching method. Problem-based learning comprises of pupils working in small groups to recognize learning problems from patient cases. Each individual pupil then researches the problems to talk about later in the small group sessions. Pupils must show much personal independence and also an initiative to succeed with the PBL technique.

About The School

Davidson County Community College (DCCC) is a multi-campus, public, two (2) year higher-education institution. The Davidson Campus is centrally situated between Lexington and also Thomasville, Davidson County, North Carolina, United States and initially started in 1958.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Traditional Option

To be eligible for admission to the Traditional ADN option applicants must:

  1. Complete the application process as described in the ADN Competitive Packet.
  2. Demonstrate physical and emotional health status compatible with the ability to provide safe nursing care.
  3. Complete an approved Nursing Assistant I training course consisting of 70 hours of training, which includes 40 hours of clinical instruction and be listed as a NAI with no substantiated findings prior to first day of the Fall semester.
  4. Be currently certified in Healthcare provider CPR prior to the first day of the Fall semester.

LPN to ADN Option

Currently licensed LPNs may elect to take courses in the hybrid LPN to ADN Option. Upon successfully completing both courses in this option, students will receive credit for NUR 111, NUR 112, NUR 113, NUR 114 and NUR 211.

The following are Admission criteria for applicants to the hybrid LPN to ADN option.

  1. Have completed all required ADN support courses with a “C” or better.
  2. Have completed the application process as described in the LPN to ADN Admission Packet.
  3. Have graduated from an approved Practical Nurse Education program.
  4. Hold an unrestricted North Carolina or compact state license as an LPN.
  5. Have 12 months full-time experience or part-time equivalent to 12 months as an LPN.
  6. Have achieved an acceptable score on a nursing entrance test. — NACE Test Information
  7. Have physical and emotional health status compatible with the ability to provide safe nursing care.
  8. Have signed and submitted Statement for Provision of Clinical Site and Preceptor.
  9. Be currently certified in Healthcare Provider CPR prior to the first day of the Fall semester.

RIBN Option

RIBN is four years in nursing studies. Students graduate with two degrees in those four years: both an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in nursing. Davidson County Community College (DCCC) is the home school for three years of the program.

Students will be enrolled in both NC A&T State University and DCCC for the first three years of the program, taking the majority of coursework at DCCC.

  1. Complete the application .
  2. Meet dual admission requirements set forth collaboratively by Davidson County Community College and NC A&T State University.
  3. Must meet general acceptance criteria for NC A&T State University and Davidson County Community College.
  4. SAT Critical Reading — Minimum 500 score on both reading and math sections or ACT scores of 22 in Reading, 18 in English and 22 in Math (Scores valid March 2014 or later).
  5. Cumulative GPA of 3.0. (If a student has less than 20 credit hours of college coursework, then this requirement will default to the high school unweighted GPA.)
  6. Demonstrate physical and emotional health status compatible with the ability to provide safe nursing care
