Nursing Program

Dalton State College offers a nursing training program leading to the Associate of Science in Nursing Degree. The program offers persons with the knowledge as well as clinical proficiency essential to give direct nursing care to patients in various settings. Some clinical experiences include out-of-town traveling and also may include evening hours. Prospective pupils must understand that all clinical locations are tobacco-free areas and also smoking is not permitted. The training program of study consists of general education and nursing theory and presents opportunities to care for patients of all ages. The program is under conditional authorization by the Georgia Board of Nursing and also approved by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc.

Graduates are qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for Registered Nurse licensure. There are certain practices and/or acts delineated in the Nurse Practice Act that might disallow a candidate from being awarded a license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN). Clinical amenities utilized by the training program require students to submit to track record and drug screenings before they are accepted in the facility.

About the school

Dalton State College (also known to as DSC or Dalton State) is among the 31 colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia, USA. Dalton State College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The college is situated in Dalton, Georgia, United States of America.

The college was established as Dalton Junior College in July 1963 and also opened in September 1967 offering programs built to offer the first 2 years of college work for pupils preparing to transfer to 4-year degree granting institutions. The inclusion of a technical division in 1976 allowed the institution to serve students wishing to build work competencies at the certificate or associate degree level. In the year 1987, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, United States of America removed “Junior” from the college’s name, and it turned to Dalton College. The University System modified the name to Dalton State College in 1998 and also advanced it to a 4-year status. Dalton State started offering its very first bachelor’s programs that year, all programs in business and technology.

In 2009, Dalton State opened an extended campus in Ellijay known as the Dalton State Gilmer County Centre and had over two hundred students enlisted for the spring semester. Dalton State also started its first on-campus residential housing, Dalton State at Wood Valley. The Dalton State College major campus comprises of 146 acres on I-75 in Whitfield Region, Georgia, USA 30 miles southern part of Chattanooga and also 80 miles northern part of Atlanta.

 

Total program cost is USD $15,985

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include: 

  1. Admission to Dalton State College and exit (or exempt) all areas of Learning Support.
  2. High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
  3. The overall GPA (includes coursework from all colleges attended) will be used for ranking purposes.  The overall GPA must be at least 2.75.
  4. SAT, ACT, or Compass scores for placement into one of the following plans designed to meet the needs of persons with varying capacities and backgrounds:

-Plan I: total SAT 970 or above (Math & Verbal scores only), or ACT composite 21 or above, or Bachelor’s degree, or for non-traditional students (those without SAT or ACT scores), test scores above exit scores in all learning support areas. Students shall complete Biology 2212, Math 1111, and English 1101 (10 hours) prior to consideration for admission to the nursing sequence.

-Plan II:   total SAT 870-960 (Math & Verbal scores only), or ACT composite 19-20 or for non-traditional students, test scores above exit scores in two learning support areas. Students shall complete Biology 2212, 2213, Math 1111, English 1101, and Psychology 1101 (17 hours) prior to consideration for admission to the nursing sequence.

-Plan III: SAT 860 or below (Math & Verbal scores only), or composite below 19 on ACT, or for non-traditional students, test score above exit score in one or none of learning support areas. Students shall complete Biology 2212, 2213, 2215, Math 1111, English 1101, Psychology 1101, and one other general education course (24 hours) prior to consideration for admission to the nursing sequence.

  1. Non-traditional students will be placed in a plan based on Compass scores.
