Cypress College ADN-RN Nursing Program Prerequisites & Reviews.”

Cypress College is an extensive community college situated in Cypress, in southern California, United States. It was founded in the year 1966. The college is among the 112 in the California Community Colleges System. It offers many different general education (fifty-five associate degrees), transfer courses (58 transfer majors), and 145 vocational programs towards associate degrees and certificates.

The campus, covering an area of 44 hectares (110 acres), was Built by architect Frank Lawyer of the Houston, Texas-based company Caudill Rowlett Scott. It includes various futuristic-looking buildings set around a central lake.

Cypress College’s pupil population reaches close to 17,000 per semester, although that amount has fluctuated (experiencing historically high levels in 2010 and also going as low as 12,500) in recent times based on the level of state financing provided and other economic factors. Spring 2012 enrollment was around 15,000.

NURSING

The Registered Nursing program educates pupils for patient/client services in various health care functions. Clinical experience in hospitals and other health-care organizations is combined with classroom instruction.

After acceptable completion of all courses along with the specified general education requirements of Cypress College, the individual will receive an

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and will be qualified to take the Registered Nursing State Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN).

The Department of Nursing articulates mostly with area universities, which means they accept lower division work from Cypress College. Most graduates continue to an upper division training program of study specially designed for registered nurses leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

The Nursing Training program is endorsed by the California State Board of Registered Nursing and fully authorized by the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN, previously NLNAC).

Total program cost is USD $9,200

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include: 

  1. Attend an information workshop. (Strongly recommended)
  2. Eligible for admission to Cypress College.
  3. High school graduation, or passing of the General Education Development tests (GED), or the high school proficiency Test, or a graduate of an accredited College.
  4. Minimum age of 17 years to apply. Must be 18 years old at the start of clinical training.
  5. Good physical and mental health as determined by a medical examination upon admission to the program.
  6. Total college grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 “C” or better. Official transcripts of all colleges attended are required.
  7. Completion of English 100C with “C’’ or better as determined by a counselor from transcript.
  8. Completion of Biology 231C (General Human Anatomy), Biology 241C (General Human Physiology), Chemistry 101C is strongly recommended, and Biology 220C (Medical Microbiology) with “C” or better. All must have been completed within five (5) years of application.
