Nursing program

  • The Nursing Education training program at Cumberland University was founded due to widespread community interest and also an increasing demand for professional nurses in middle Tennessee. On September 8, 1991, the Tennessee Board of Nursing granted unanimous initial authorization to Cumberland University to start its BS in Nursing Program (BSN)
  • The objective of the Jeanette C. Rudy College of Nursing and Health Professions is to assist the University’s goal by educating people to become baccalaureate and also master’s prepared nurses, as well as qualified professionals in Health and Human Performance. Graduates of the institution will promote and also provide healthcare and wellness services to persons, families, and also communities across the life span. The focus will be placed on knowledge and also experiences that promote critical thinking, credibility, and also life-long learning.
  • Their B.S.N. training program is nationally certified by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and is endorsed by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. General students obtain a BSN in 8 semesters.

About the school

  • Cumberland University (CU) is a non-public University in Lebanon, Tennessee, United States Of America. It was established in 1842, though the present campus structures were built between 1892 and 1896.

Total estimated cost of attendance is approximate $24,050

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. Students must first be admitted to Cumberland University and declare nursing as their major. Click here to apply.
  2. Students must have no more than 3 hours of lower division coursework remaining to be accepted to the School of Nursing at the Lebanon campus and have completed all lower division coursework for the Mt. Juliet site. Students admitted to the School of Nursing will receive a letter declaring admission.
  3. Students must have earned a minimum of 3.0 (effective spring 2011) cumulative G.P.A (4.00 scale) in required lower division coursework with no grade below a “C”.
  4. Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II and Microbiology (BIO 213, BIO 214, BIO 203) must have been satisfactorily completed prior to entering the first upper division nursing course (B.S.N. completion students are exempt).
  5. A satisfactory score on a specified standardised pre-admission examination is required for admission to School of Nursing. Test scores must be earned within one (1) years of entering the School of Nursing and must be taken at Cumberland University. Order the Kaplan Review Study Book here.
  6. To enter the School of Nursing students must complete the Nursing Information Form online and submit no later than the first Friday of October for admission to spring semester, no later than the first Friday of February for admission to summer semester, and no later than first Friday of June for admission to fall semester.   7. Official transcript(s) must be on file with the Office of Admissions.

The following courses are required for all applicants that do not have a Bachelor’s Degree or a University Parallel Associate’s Degree before the start of upper division nursing coursework:

  • English Composition I and II
  • College Algebra or Math for the Liberal Arts
  • General Biology
  • Microbiology, Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II
  • US History I and II or World Civilisation I and II
  • Spanish I and II
  • Introduction to Literature or Topics in Literature
  • Fine Arts Elective
  • Fundamentals of Speech
  • Introduction to Sociology
  • Human Growth and Development
  • Fundamentals of Chemistry
  • Nutrition- Nights and Weekends Only
  • Statistics of the Behavioral Sciences- Nights and Weekends Only
