  • The Nursing Training program initially endorsed by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses in the year 1974 (presently referred to as the Maryland Board of Nursing), and leads to the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. The Commission University on Collegiate Nursing Education certifies the baccalaureate degree in nursing at Coppin State.

  • Coppin State University is a historically black school situated in Baltimore, Maryland, United States of America. It is a part of the University System of Maryland. The University is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
  • Coppin State University was established in the year 1900 at what was then known as Colored High School (afterward named Douglass High School) on Pennsylvania Avenue by the Baltimore City School Board, United States.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. Admission to Coppin State University (CSU) through the Office of Admissions Apply online
  2. Competitive Admission Process [FALL only] to the Helene Fuld School of Nursing (HFSON) in the College of Health Professions (CHP) through the Student Affairs and Retention Office (STAR) Application
  • EARLY Decision Deadline = December 1st each year
  • FINAL Deadline = February 1st each year
  1. Official Transcripts from each college attended prior to CSU indicating successful completion of Prerequisite and General Education Requirements (GERs) courses submitted to both the CSU Office of Admissions and the STAR Office in the CHP. If you have any foreign education, you must submit an evaluation of your foreign coursework by one of the following: World Education Service or Josef Silny & Associates.
  2. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation submitted only to the STAR Office in the CHP
  3. Official competitive scores from the HESI A2 entrance examination submitted to the STAR Office in the CHP
  4. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on 4.0 scale for the Traditional BSN plan of study

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Accelerated Second Degree)

  1. Admission to Coppin State University (CSU) through the Office of Admissions> Apply online
  2. Competitive Admission Process [FALL only] to the Helene Fuld School of Nursing (HFSON) in the College of Health Professions (CHP) through the Student Affairs and Retention Office (STAR). Application

  5. Application Essay of Goals and Objectives that should include the following:
  • Reason for selecting Nursing as a career, including professional goals. Explain how the Accelerated Second Degree BSN Plan will assist in achieving your professional goals.
  • Factors that prompted a career change.
  • Reasons for selecting Coppin State University as the higher education institution for completing your Nursing Education.
  • Include a discussion of your long-term goals/plans.
  • Also include a brief summary of significant work experience, progressing from high school to college to the current time period.
  • Give details of how previous work and educational experiences relate to nursing.
  • Finally, in light of the intensity of this program, discuss how you will handle the demands of the academic program as well as outside responsibilities during the accelerated track program of study.
