Nursing Program
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Training program IN Columbus Technical College is a seventy semester hour training program that provides a bridge alternative for licensed practical nurses (LPNs). The curriculum is built to prepare highly knowledgeable, technically skilled and caring individuals who are ready to practice professional nursing in various healthcare functions. Pupils are required to earn a minimum grade of (C) in all courses each term for further advancement.
Nursing’s basis is comprised of compassionate nursing care and also exemplifies current standards of practice as well as current scientific /technological knowledge. Nursing comprises of holistic care that is focused on improving the quality of life, psychosocial needs, promoting, maintaining as well as restoring health or a peaceful, dignified death.
Program graduates who satisfy graduation requirements are qualified to write the national licensure examination (NCLEX) to become registered nurses. The faculty believes Associate Degree Nursing Education prepares pupils for entrance into professional nursing practice as well as the capacity to provide care in various settings. This education provides a basis for continuous learning in formal and also informal settings. Graduates are qualified to apply for advanced nursing programs in neighboring university systems. The ADN curriculum has been approved by both Columbus State University and also Troy University RN-BSN Bridge Program for advanced degrees.

Columbus Technical College (also referred to as Columbus Tech) is a 2-year technical college situated in Columbus, Georgia, United States of America. It is governed by Technical College System of Georgia United State of America.
Columbus Technical College’s foundation date back to 1961, when the Columbus Area Vocational-Technical School, functioning as a unit of the Muscogee District School Region, started with 39 students enlisted in 8 different programs. In the year 1966, under the leadership of Perry Gordy, who superseded Richardson in the year 1965, the school combined with the Muscogee Area Vocational-Technical School at Columbus Tech’s present-day place. A $500,000 added to the campus was completed in 1967.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program is competitive, and the number of students admitted is directly related to clinical space availability. After meeting the admission requirements, applicants are ranked in order using a point system. Applicant’s points are derived from GPA, Compass/ACCUPLACER scores, & Pre-NLN test score.
Competitive ranking will be based on:
- Standardized admission test score (ACCUPLACER only)
- Students will be allowed only one retest in the Reading and Sentence Skills sections after the required score is attained. The highest score will be used in the ranking process. Scores must be within 5 years of the semester the student is applying for their intended program. (Scores older than 5 years will still count as “first attempt” scores).
- Math Scores: Students who score below the required Pre-Algebra and Algebra scores will be eligible for competitive admission after successful completion of required Learning Support math courses and the required program math course (MATH 1012-Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing& Pharmacy Technology Diploma or MATH 1111-all other programs). The math sections of the standardized admission test will not have to be taken again; Math ACCUPLACER scores will not be used in the ranking process.
- Designated course grades are indicated by an * on program sequence sheets and CTC web page.
- Students with the grade of D, F, W, WP or WF the first time will be allowed 1 re-take opportunity to make a passing grade. The student will then be given one opportunity to improve on a passing grade as stated above. The higher grade will be used for ranking. *Note that Financial Aid may not pay for a class again once a student has passed with a “C” or better.
- Beginning January 2014 all Science courses (BIOL 2113 & 2113L, 2114 & 2114L, 2117 & 2117L, CHEM 1211 & 1211L and PHYS 1110 & 1110L, ALHS1011) used for competitive admission cannot be more than 7 years old or the course must be re-taken.
