Nursing Program

Columbus State Community College Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree (ADN) grooms our graduates to provide direct care to clients with common health issues in many different settings.

After successful completion of the five-semester training program, pupils meet the requirements to take the NCLEX-RN examination. The college offers a 5-semester training program that includes knowledge from nursing, humanities and also sciences along with a strong focus on psychomotor skills. Also, Columbus State offers LPNs the chance to upgrade their credentials to a Registered Nurse (RN).

The Associate Degree Nursing Training program is certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and Training program is endorsed by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

About The School

Columbus State Community College (CSCC) is a community college very first founded in Columbus, Ohio, United States, as Columbus Area Technician’s School in the year 1963, and was renamed as Columbus Technical Institute in the year 1965 and was renamed once again to its present name in 1987.

Total estimated program cost is USD $20,565

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. High School Diploma or GED

Applicants must have a high school transcript, GED, or college transcript verifying a degree on file with the Office of the Registrar. Applicants should verify their document(s) is on file prior to applying to the Nursing Program.  You may contact the Telephone Information Center via telephone at 614-287-5353 or via e-mail at [email protected] to verify if the documents have been received.

  1. GPA or ACT score

Students applying to the Nursing Program must have college GPA of 2.6 or above. If the applicant does not have a college GPA, then the applicant must have a high school GPA of 2.6 or an ACT composite score of 18 or above. (ACT scores may be used within the last 4 years from the date of the test.)

  1. Nursing Information Session

Applicants must complete an online Nursing Program Information Session.

  1. NURC 1001 Class with grade of “C” or better within the last 5 years, or N Credit for State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) Card issued within the last five years.
  2. Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) Admission Assessment (A2) Exam

 

Completion of the HESI A2 with a score of 75 is required for admission.  This score reflects a necessary reading, science, and math knowledge foundation to be successful in the Nursing Program.  Applicants are encouraged to utilize the Evolve Reach Admission Assessment Exam Review by HESI prior to taking the A2 exam.This exam review is available for purchase at the CSCC Bookstore. Scores from other schools will not be accepted. A copy of the results must be submitted with your nursing application.

  1. A minimum grade of “C” or better is required in all Nursing, Science, Psychology, English, and Math courses in the curriculum. Students accepted to the nursing program who do not achieve a minimum grade of “C” or better in all of the following support courses must retake the course (s) prior to the start of their NURS classes or during the semester in which the course(s) is (are) required in the curriculum plan, in order to remain a student in good standing in the program: BIO 2300 (Human Anatomy); BIO 2301 (Human Physiology); BIO 2215 (Introduction to Microbiology); PSY 1100 (Introduction to Psychology); PSY 2340 (Human Growth and Development); MATH 1025 (Quantitative Literacy); STAT 1350 (Statistics), ENG 1100 (Composition I), NURC 1104 (Basic Care Skills).
  2. To register to take the A2 Admission Exam. The A2 exam may be taken a maximum of 2 times. A2 exam scores from other schools will not be accepted.
