Nursing Program

The ADN nursing program at this college has the approval and accreditation of Idaho Board of Nursing and the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission respectively. Upon successful completion of this program, graduates are eligible to obtain Idaho RN license by sitting for the NCLEX-RN exam. Also, graduates may elect to advance further to acquire BSN.

The Associate Degree Nursing Program trains graduate nurses from various backgrounds who exhibit knowledge, integrity and caring through the nursing process, responds to the holistic needs of individuals in different environments, and communicate effectively with healthcare providers within the communities, patients, and families. The graduate enhances optimal health in a cost-effective and safe manner as a component of a multidisciplinary team that sees education as a continuous undertaking.

About the school

College of Southern Idaho (CSI) is a community college in Twin Falls, Idaho, United States, with outreach programs in Hailey, Burley, Boise, and Gooding. College of Southern Idaho offers associate of science, an associate of arts, technical certificates, and associate of applied science degrees in more than115 disciplines. It equally offers additional upper-division courses through the Boise State University, University of Idaho and Idaho State University. Credits transfer from CSI to the schools mentioned above is seamless. CSI’s enrollment is roughly 7,000 students with further 3,000 in non-credit courses. Idaho’s Magic Valley region constitutes about 85% of the student body. CSI was one of only two comprehensive community colleges in Idaho, along with North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene before the inception of the College of Western Idaho in 2007.

The total program cost is around $19,000 for residents and $25,000 for non-residents.

In an effort to improve the ADN program, changes to the application process and waiting list have been made with much thought and consideration.

• Due to the competitive nature of the program, it is highly recommended that all pre-nursing students meet with an HSHS program advisor. A nursing advisor is available by appointment or walk-in Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. • Students currently on the waiting list who have previously applied to the program, will be admitted to the program during the spring 2016 and fall 2016 semesters depending upon his/her placement on the waiting list.

• Starting with new applicants for the February 15, 2016 deadline, there will no longer be a waiting list for the program.

• 50 students are admitted to the program every fall and spring semester.

• All applications will be scored and totaled after the application deadline. Only applicants with a proficient or higher score on the designated nursing entrance exam (TEAS test) will be considered for acceptance.

• The 50 students accepted into the ADN program from a given application pool will be determined by the following process: 80 percent (#40) of the selected applicants will be determined based on the highest point score from the score sheet totals. The remaining 20 percent (#10) of the selected applicants will be determined randomly from the remaining candidate pool after the applicants with the highest score sheet totals are determined.

• MATH 143 or MATH 153, BIOL 227, BIOL 228, BIOL 221, & CHEM 101must have been completed within five (5) years of application.

• Applications will be reviewed in a timely manner after the application deadline. Students will be notified by email to the email address provided on the ADNP application after the application has been reviewed. Students may contact the HSHS student advisor regarding his/her application, documents received, score sheet, etc.

• All applicants are notified of their status by the email address provided on the ADNP application and are given a seat in the program when one is available.

• If you are taking courses at another institution, make sure to send official transcripts from that school to CSI’s Office of the Registrar for transfer credit purposes.

To apply to the CSI Associate Degree Nursing program, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Apply to the College of Southern Idaho (to become a student and get a student ID number).

Step 2: Take the designated nursing entrance exam (TEAS 6 test). This test measures basic essential skills in the academic areas of reading, mathematics, science and English and measures entry level academic readiness of nursing program applicants. The time limit for this test is 209 minutes with 170 total questions. This test can be completed at the CSI testing center or other approved testing sites. • Students must score in the proficient category or higher to be considered for the RN program. The TEAS 6 test must be completed and passed at the proficient level or higher by the application date.
• Students will only be allowed to take the TEAS 6 Test a total of 2 times in each application period. You can repeat the TEAS 6 test one time in each application period to reach the proficient level with a 30 day waiting period between each test.
• If you take your TEAS 6 test at a testing center other than CSI, you will need to submit a copy of your results with your application materials.

To prepare for the TEAS 6 test or if you do not reach the proficient level within your two attempts, there are resources available. In the CSI library, there is the TEAS Pre-test Study Manual. Available through for purchase through ATI Testing, there are learning strategies, TEAS online practice assessments, study manuals. You can even purchase your TEAS transcript, if needed.

The TEAS 6 test has a cost of $55.00 per assessment that must be paid with a credit/debit card at the testing center before you take the test (will be paid through the ATI testing website). Before taking the test, please create an ATI account (username/password). Follow the instructions on the site to create an account through their secure sign on (do not register for TEAS 6 through this website).

Starting September 1, 2016 the ATI testing discontinued the TEAS V test and replaced it with the TEAS 6 test. The RN-AS program will currently accept test scores from either the TEAS V or the TEAS 6 to meet the entrance requirements.

Step 3: Complete the following items to apply to the Associate Degree Nursing program:

• ADNP Application for Admission (send to the Health Sciences and Human Services Department);
• Official high school transcript or GED/HSE with graduation date (send to the Office of the Registrar);
• Official college transcripts from all other institutions, excluding CSI (send to the Office of the Registrar);
• Copies of any of the following items (send to the Health Sciences and Human Services Department, if applicable):
  • TEAS 6 test results (only if the test was NOT taken at a CSI testing center),
  • Current copy of CNA certificate,
  • Current copy of CMA certificate,
  • Proof of military medical experience (DD-214),
  • Current copy of LPN license,
  • Current copy of Paramedic license.

High school/college transcripts may be turned in personally to the Office of the Registrar located in the Taylor Building or mailed to College of Southern Idaho, Attn: Office of the Registrar, PO Box 1238, Twin Falls, ID 83303-1238.

ADN application for admission and copies of licenses may be turned in personally to the Health Sciences and Human Services main office or mailed to College of Southern Idaho, Health Sciences and Human Services Department, Attn: Rene Rambur, PO Box 1238, Twin Falls, ID 83303-1238.

Step 4: All applicants will be scored following the score sheet based upon materials submitted by the application deadline.
