Nursing Program

More and more people are opting to embrace the nursing career because it provides numerous opportunities, as well as personal and professional achievements. The Associate Degree Nursing Program at Chesapeake College can prepare you to work in clinics, community settings, physician’s offices, industry, nursing homes or hospitals.

Chesapeake College offers first level and second level courses. Upon graduation, the candidates are eligible to take the national licensure exam to become registered nurses.

About the school

Chesapeake College is a community college on the Eastern part of Maryland that offers certificates, associate degrees, and other programs. It was the first regional two-year community college in the state of Maryland.

The college has its main campus in Wye Mills, Maryland, at the meeting point of Maryland Route 213 and U.S. Route 50. It also has a satellite campus in Cambridge. The college serves the five Mid-Shore counties: Kent, Caroline, Queen Anne’s, Dorchester, and Talbot. The mission of the college was to assist those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to obtain a college degree.

Total program cost for residents is around $12,000, for in-state but out of County residents, it is around $16,000 while that of the out-of-state residents is about $22,000.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Admission Requirements for the fall 2017 Academic Year

Students are encouraged to meet with the health professions advisor as soon as they become interested in applying to the nursing program to develop an individualized plan to complete all required courses in the most effective sequence. All prospective nursing students must complete each of the following requirements by the application deadline to be considered eligible for admission to nursing courses:

1. Graduation from an accredited high school or GED. (Official transcript is required).
2. Completion of the College’s Accuplacer administered through the Office of Student Success and Enrollment Services.
   1. Students who have completed college-level English and math are exempt from the placement test but should note the minimum requirements for Biology and CHM 012 listed below.
   2. Students assessed with college-level academic skills in math and English can register directly into the pre-requisite requirements for the nursing program if high school biology and chemistry (academic track only will be accepted) have been completed with a “C” or better within ten It is the responsibility of the student to submit transcripts by the application deadline to validate these courses were taken within the ten year timeframe and to obtain course descriptions of the same.
   3. Students not assessed with college-level academic skills in math and English and those that have not completed high-school chemistry and biology within ten years with a “C” or better are required to complete the following courses in addition to the standard prerequisite requirements.

Each of these courses will need to be completed by the application deadline:

1. CHM 012 with a minimum of a “C” or better
2. ii. BIO 101 (as a pre-requisite requirement to Bio 211)

• iii. Any math or English courses prescribed by the placement exam

3. Complete prerequisite courses for the Nursing Program with a minimum of a “C” or better by the application deadline:
   1. BIO 211, Anatomy and Physiology (4 credits)
   2. PSC 150, General Psychology (3 credits)
   3. ENG 101, English (3 credits)
   4. Math elective ( Mat 113, 115, 140) (3 credits)

Note: Laboratory science and human growth and development courses took ten years or more before application for admission to the program will not be considered.
