Nursing program
This program is intended to provide the necessary education for students interested in becoming Registered Nurses (RNs) and takes students through liberal arts courses and nursing courses simultaneously to obtain an Associate Degree in Science in Nursing.
The program takes a minimum of two years or four semesters for the Traditional Track OR two semesters of nursing coursework for present Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) through a Role Transition course for the Advanced Standing Track. Both tracks will ready students to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a licensed registered nurse in the State of Minnesota.

Central Lakes College is a two-year community and technical college part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System with campuses in Staples and Brainerd.
Central Lakes College offers courses in the liberal arts and sciences, Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Science degrees, technical programs, diplomas and certificates and Minnesota Transfer Curriculum for transfers to a four-year college. It also awards many unique degrees such as Underwater Diving along with “green” environmental and ecological courses.
Central Lakes College has been approved national accreditation for their concurrent enrollment programs from The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).

In addition to the CLC admission requirements, admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program Tracks, both Traditional and Advanced Standing require an application to the nursing program as well as students completing a Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test. Application forms for the Associate Degree Nursing Program Tracks are available in the admissions department at CLC and may also be found online at the CLC nursing website.
Application:
Admission to the nursing major is highly competitive. Application does not assure admission. The priority deadlines for applications are February 1st for a Fall start and July 1st for a Spring start.
The Traditional Track does not require any pre-requisite courses, but it is highly recommended that students consider taking some of the required general education courses ahead of time while waiting for admission.
The Advanced Standing Track has pre-requisite courses that must be completed to the minimum required grading standard prior to taking NURS 2450, NURS 2541, and NURS 2542.
Applicants will be notified of their admission status per time table listed on program application form. Applicants who have been selected for admission to the nursing program must indicate acceptance by returning the signed acceptance form.
Application Submission Priority Deadline: February 1st for a Fall Start, July 1st for a Spring Start
Admission requirements: TEAS test score at or above 70* Composition I ready by program start (evidenced by Accuplacer score at or above 78 in reading or grades in pre-requisite courses that allow Composition I)
*Potential second round of acceptance: 3 months later with ranking by TEAS score down to 65, if openings still exist in program
