Nursing program

  • The baccalaureate training program at California State University, Sacramento consists of a four-year curriculum of lower and also upper-division coursework. There are two years of General Education which include prerequisites and two (2) years of clinical nursing.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  • You must apply to the university and then to School of Nursing.
  • A minimum Nursing GPA of 3.3 is required to be considered for admission.
  • All prerequisite and corequisite courses must be completed with a C- or better grade.
  • Completion of the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is required for all students applying to the clinical nursing program. Any TEAS versions are accepted (e.g. 4.0 or V). A minimum score of 75.0% is required to be considered for admission. The test may be taken three times within a five-year period preceding the Supplemental Nursing Application deadline; the test with the highest score will be used.
  • Anatomy or A&P I, Physiology or A&P II, and microbiology must include in-class, on-campus labs—virtual or kitchen labs are not acceptable.

ADN-BSN ADMISSION

  • A valid California registered nursing license ( RN License must be received within 60 day of graduation from an ADN program)
  • California state resident
  • Admission to Sacramento State
  • Completed RN to BSN admission application packet (see below for details)
  • Official transcripts of all institutions attended
  • A cumulative G.P.A of 2.6 based on the last 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of graded transferable course work
  • Applicants who are currently employed as an RN will have priority for admission
  • Supplemental writing or oral communication may be required
  • Program admission is contingent upon meeting requirements outlined and passing drug screening and background check.
  • Unofficial transcripts may be submitted for in-progress classes but must be replaced with official transcripts.
  • The following classes must have been completed with a grade of “C” or better.
  • Anatomy or Anatomy and Physiology I (with a lab)
  • Physiology or Anatomy and Physiology II (with a lab)
  • Microbiology (with a lab)
  • Chemistry (integrated or organic chemistry is not required)
  • Written Communication
  • Oral Communication
  • Statistics
  • Critical Thinking
