Nursing program

• The professional nursing curriculum at California State University leads to the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing (BSN).
• The School of Nursing offers four options for earning the BSN degree that include the: basic pre-licensure BSN training program, RN to BSN transfer training program, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) to BSN collaborative training program, and B.S. accelerated training program. • The undergraduate training program is endorsed by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and also certified by the CCNE.
• The totality of units needed for the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) is 120 credits, of which 66 to 68 units are in the major.

All students who wish to be accepted into these options must submit an application to the School of Nursing  during the fall semester of each academic year.

Basic Pre-Licensure BSN Program Option

• The Pre-Licensure BSN Option is for students who do not have an RN license. Entering freshman may be admitted as Undeclared with an Interest in Nursing through the admissions process if they designate Nursing as their intended major on CSU Mentor and meet the eligibility requirements.
• The requirements for admission as Undeclared with an Interest in Nursing for entering freshmen are a 3.0 high school GPA and an SAT score of 900 on the math and verbal portions of the exam. Students who are admitted as Undeclared with an Interest in Nursing must complete the prerequisites for admission to the program and be admitted to the program within 45 30 degree eligible units or they must select an alternative major.
• Students who select an alternate major after 45 30 units may still apply to the Nursing major. Continuing or transfer students must have a minimum of a 2.75 GPA in order to be admitted as Undeclared with an Interest in Nursing.
• In order to be admitted to the Pre-Licensure BSN option, students must meet the supplementary admission criteria, including completion of all the prerequisites for admission to the Nursing major specified on the School website, prior to submitting their application to the major.

RN to BSN Transfer Program Option

• The RN to BSN Transfer option is for students who possess a California R.N. License and an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science in Nursing or an NLNAC Accredited diploma.
• In order to be admitted to the RN to BSN Option, students must meet the supplementary admission criteria, including completion of all the prerequisites for admission to the Nursing major specified below (and found on the School website) prior to acceptance into the major.
• Admission to the RN to BSN Program also requires a separate application with a copy of the CA RN license attached. The minimum GPA accepted from all transfer institutions is 2.75.

ADN-BSN Collaborative Program Option

• The ADN-BSN Collaborative Program utilizes a collaborative model for academic progression in nursing that links CSULA with designated CA Community College (CC) partners to facilitate seamless progression to CSULA for ADN collaborative program students.
• This collaboration enables the ADN RN to earn a BSN degree in approximately 12 months after graduating from the CC. Students accepted into this program will have completed all prerequisite courses at their respective community colleges and will have dual enrollment at their CC and CSULA.
• Students who are interested in applying for this program should meet with their CC academic advisor and must have successfully completed their first and second semesters and be GE certified at the CC.
• Selection for the program is based on academic achievement in the prerequisite courses and in the ADN program.
• Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA. If there are more qualified students than there are available spaces, students may be selected via lottery for this program.

Nursing, B.S., Accelerated Program Option

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is for applicants who already possess a baccalaureate degree in another field, but do not possess an RN license.

• Completion of bachelor’s (or higher) degree in another field
• Completion of supplementary application form to the SON
• Minimum GPA 3.0 in last 90 units
• Completion of prerequisite science courses at 3.0 level
• Completion of all other prerequisite courses at C level
• A selected test of basic academic skills administered by the School of Nursing will be required prior to consideration for admission into the program.
• Top ranking applicants will be invited for an interview and on-site writing sample. Admission decisions will be made after this process.
