Nursing program

  • The BYU College of Nursing, fully endorsed by the Utah State Board of Nursing, and also certified by the CCNE, offers a baccalaureate training program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredits the baccalaureate degree in nursing at Brigham Young University.
  • All pupils completing the Bachelor of Science training program meet the requirements to sit for the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX) essential to become a registered nurse.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. Be admitted as a student at Brigham Young University

Transfer Students

  • Have a transfer GPA of at least a 3.5-3.6. BYU may limit admission of transfer students with more than 80 semester credits of transfer work
  • Check with Advisement Center regarding transferring classes.
  1. Complete the pre-requisite courses.

Other supporting or GE courses may also be completed before applying for acceptance.

  • Nurs 180
  • NDFS 100
  • Development Elective (SFL 210 or Psych 220)
  • PDBio 220
  • Chem 285
  • (Chem 101 or an equivalent is needed prior to other Chemistry courses)

* If taking a class through Independent Study, the final grade needs to be posted on the transcript by the application deadline. Transfer classes also need to have the grade posted at BYU at the time of application in order to be able to apply.  All of the above classes must be completed with a grade of at least a C. A C- is not satisfactory progress.

28 Credit hours and first year writing or its AP equivalent must also be completed.

Students with English as a Second Language

ESL students must complete the following requirements, in addition to completing the five nursing prerequisites, which are Nurs 180, Chem 285, NDFS 100, PDBio 220, and a developmental elective (SFL 210 or PSYCH 220).
