Nursing Program
The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum at Blue Ridge Community College provides knowledge, skills, and strategies for incorporate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in an evolving atmosphere, and to fulfill personal needs which impact health, high quality of life, and also the achievement of prospects.
Course work involves and builds upon the areas of healthcare, nursing practice, along with the complete individual. Content emphasizes the nurse as an associate of the interdisciplinary team offering safe, individualized care which employing evidence-based practice, high-quality improvement, and also informatics.
Graduates of this training program meet the requirements to apply to take the National Council Examination (NCLEX-RN). This curriculum adheres to the standard endorsed by the State Board of Community Colleges.

Blue Ridge Community College is a two (2) year, extensive post-secondary institution situated in the mountains of western North Carolina, USA. It serves Henderson and also Transylvania regions.
Pupils who graduate from BRCC meet the criteria to transfer to any of North Carolina’s eighteen public colleges and universities. Found in the year 1969, the Institution is among the 58 public institutions within the North Carolina Community College System.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- Complete an online BRCC Application for Admission at www.blueridge.edu. If you have applied to Blue Ridge Community College previously or have taken curriculum courses here before, you will need to update your information by completing a BRCC application available on the internet. Select Pre-Associates Degree Nursing as your Program of Study.
- Take the pre-enrollment placement test. Contact Student Services (828) 694-1800 for a testing appointment. You must have a satisfactory score on the test or complete any required prerequisite courses with a grade of “P” or better before being considered for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The prerequisite courses for Associate Degree Nursing are DRE 097, DRE 098, DMA 010, DMA 020, DMA 030, DMA 040, and DMA 050. Test scores may require basic math or reading units through the College and Career Readiness Center. Placement testing is waived for applicants with a Bachelor degree or transferable English and Math with a “C” grade or above or for applicants with acceptable SAT or ACT scores taken within the last five years. Acceptable scores for test taken prior to March 2016 are a SAT score of 500 or above on English orCritical Reading, and Mathematics. Scores for test
taken after March 2016 are a SAT score of 530 or above in Mathematics, and a
480 or above for Evidence- Based Reading and Writing or an ACT score of 18 or above on English or 22 or above on Reading, and 22 or above on Mathematics. Those who have graduated from a North Carolina high school within the past 5 years with an unweighted GPA of 2.6 or greater and acceptable math courses may be exempt from taking the pre-enrollment placement test due to multiple measure placement.
- Request that your high school transcript be sent to the BRCC Registrar. If you entered ninth grade or above these records are required. The high school will mail your official transcript to Blue Ridge Community College. BRCC will review your high school transcript for units in Chemistry and Biology. You must have a “C” average or better in these courses before being considered for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Students who have not met these requirements may do so by taking Foundations of Biology (BIO 090) for the Biology requirement, and/or Fundamentals of Chemistry (CHM 092) for the Chemistry requirement. These courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. Applicants who are currently enrolled in high school, taking these courses and anticipating completing the grade and course requirements, may continue with the application process. Students enrolled in high school must request that the high school mail a final transcript to BRCC as soon as possible upon graduation. AND If you have a High School Equivalency Diploma or GED, please provide these scores to the Registrar. For High School Equivalency Diploma: A standard score of 150 or above on the Science Test will count as one unit of Biology. For GED: A standard score of 450 or above on the Natural Science Test will count as one unit of Biology. There is no equivalent for the Chemistry on the High School Equivalency or GED exam. AND If you have attended any college, university, or community/technical college, request that ALL official transcript(s) be sent to our Registrar. ALL official transcripts must be received before you can be considered for admission into the Associate Degree Nursing program. Student copies of transcripts are not acceptable.
- Attend one of the Associate Degree Nursing Program Information Sessions to receive important information about the curriculum and career of Associate Degree Nursing education.
- BRCC Pre-Nursing Applicants will be allowed to schedule a TEAS Version VI
(6) test after they have attended an Associate Degree Nursing Program Information Session.
