Nursing Program
The nursing program offers variety in roles and settings, an array of career paths plus employment opportunities, with competitive salaries. People are fascinated to nursing by the focus on flexibility of working schedules, caring, and challenges to stand out within the profession.
The ADN program trains the student to play an active role in the provision health in various settings such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, home care, physicians’ offices, health centers, and the military. BCC’s nursing program is a sequence of lecture, clinical courses, and laboratory. Graduates are qualified to take the licensing examination towards becoming registered nurses (RNs).
About the school
Berkshire Community College was founded in 1960 as the first community college created by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Presently, there are 15 community colleges all over the state.
In the first 12 years, BCC was situated in downtown Pittsfield, the former junior high school which was made available by the city. The college later moved to its present location in 1972, occupying a glorious 180-acre campus four miles from the center of Pittsfield. About a decade later, it opened a satellite campus known as the South County Center in Great Barrington.
Recently, about 3,000 students enrolled in day, evening credit courses at the main campus, online or off-campus sites. In addition, over 5,200 students enrolled in different non-credit and workforce development options.
Total program cost for in-state residents is around $12,090 and $23,322 for out-of-state residents
Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
Students who have met all the admissions requirements must complete a matriculation form by March 1st to be considered for the fall semester. BCC will review all completed forms by April 15 and students will be notified of decisions by mail. Accepted students may defer one time for a 1 year period.
Students must:
- Submit a BCC Application for Admission
- Submit official high school, GED or HiSET transcript(s)
- Submit official transcripts from previous colleges attended
Specific admission requirements include:
- English — Readiness to take ENG 101 as demonstrated through Learning Skills Assessment OR completion of a college.
- Math — HS graduate within the past 2 years with a GPA of at least 2.7 and a minimum grade of “B” (80) in Algebra II OR ACCUPLACER placement into college level math OR successful completion of the Mathematics Challenge Assessment OR completion of a college level math class with a minimum grade of “C” (Statistics recommended for transfer – MAT 123*);
- Chemistry — Completion of college chemistry (CHM 150* or CHM 101*) with a grade of “C” or better OR one year of high school college preparatory chemistry with a grade of “C” (73) or better, completed within seven years;
- Support Courses — Complete with a “C” or better a minimum of 10 credits of college level ADN support courses including Anatomy & Physiology I (BIO-201*). Anatomy & Physiology I must be completed within seven years of submitting this form.
- Attend a Mandatory Pre-Nursing Information Session — Information sessions are scheduled as follows: (choose one) Wed. 11/9/16 from 3:00–4:00 PM, Tues. 1/31/17 from 6:00–7:00 PM, Sat. 2/11/17 from 9:00–10:00 AM, and Wed., 3/1/17 from 8:30 – 9:30 AM.
