Nursing Program

Barton offers two kinds of programs for individuals wanting to enter the sphere of nursing: Certificate in Practical Nursing (PN) and an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Nursing (ADN). A student finishes the very first two semesters of the training program to earn a PN certificate and is qualified to take the NCLEX-PN® to become Licensed Practical Nurse. The graduate then can opt to carry on their education or enter the workforce.

When the Licensed Practical Nurse desires to continue their education they may sign up for the second year of the nursing training program; graduates will earn the Associate in Applied Science degree and is qualified to take the NCLEX-RN® to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

A health care professional is accountable for applying the practice of nursing by utilizing the nursing process in concert with other health-care specialists. Registered Nurses work as patient advocates for the care and also recuperation of the sick and upkeep of their health. Registered Nurses use the nursing process to evaluate, strategize, implement, and assess nursing care of the sick and wounded. Registered Nurses also provide guidance and psychological support to patient’s family members.

A profession of nursing provides a wide selection of job opportunities. Nurses practice in a number of settings (clinics, hospitals, long-term care facilities, community agencies, schools) and care for all age bracket.

About the school

Barton Community College, formerly referred to as “Barton County Community College,” is an extensive community college situated in Great Bend, Kansas, United States Of America. It serves the following area Barton, Pawnee, Ellsworth,  Rush and Russell Counties, Stafford County north of US Highway 50, as well as northwestern Rice County.

Barton Community College was established on July 15, 1965, via an election by the citizens of Barton County, Kansas. Its initial name was Barton County Community College, which was later on reduced to its present name, Barton Community College.

 

Total estimated program cost is USD $12,570

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include: 

  1. Students for the Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) program are eligible to apply provided they have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  2. Applicants must complete all of the prerequisite courses below:
  • ENGL 101 composition
  • ENGL 102 critical reading and writing
  • COMS 130 speaking-audience communication
  • PYSC 104 General psychology
  • SOC 104 elements of sociology
  • PSYC 1014 Developmental Psychology
  • MATH 1O1 college Algebra
  • MATH S365 Elementary statistics
  • BIOL 100 & 102 Principle of Biology
  • BIOL 240 Intro to Anatomy
  • BIOL 246 Intro of Physiology
  • BIOL 200 & 203 Microbiology
  • CHEM 130 chemistry or CHEM 110
  1. Provide proof of a current RN license prior to the start of classes.
  2. Three letters of recommendation are required in addition to the online application.
  3. Admission is competitive; applicants are not guaranteed admission. Applications are reviewed on the basis of documentation of personal and scholastic aptitude as evidenced by: personal statement of interest and commitment to nursing, references, extracurricular, volunteer or community activities, personal characteristics, and nursing work experience.
  4. To have an application considered for admission, all parts of the application (including transcripts and references) must be submitted by the deadline appropriate for your anticipated start date.
