Nursing Program
Following the school’s the philosophy, the Associate Degree Nursing Program at BCCC has its curriculum designed so that the graduates can: utilize the concept of health and illness as a starting point for nursing practice. Use critical thinking skills to apply understanding from the biopsychosocial sciences, nursing theory and humanities in making client care decisions. Utilize the nursing procedures in providing health care to a culturally diverse population.
Baltimore City Community College offers two nursing Associate Degree Nursing Programs, and the four-semester course requires 74 credit hours. The essential courses for earning these credits are Developmental Psychology, Physiology and Anatomy, and Modern Elementary Statistics. The following program is referred to as Practical Nursing which lasts only three semesters and requires only 49 credit hours.
About the school
Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) is the sole community college in the city of Baltimore, Maryland, and the only State-sponsored community college in Maryland. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accredits it.
It was established in 1947 and has about 5,000 students enrolled in one of its three campuses. While BCCC mainly serves the residents and business community of Baltimore, it also provides educational opportunities on all levels to the citizens of Baltimore and the State of Maryland which supports students in obtaining good jobs, transfers to four-year colleges or take short-term training to upgrade their skills or acquire new ones.
BCCC also offers continuing education programs such as General Educational Development (GED) to students seeking a High School Diploma. Also, the College offers English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to students wanting to strengthen their language skills and Adult Basic Education (ABE) to those students wanting to gain literacy skills. The College’s Business and Continuing Education Division (BCED) partners with local business and industry to offer contract and customized training; apprenticeships and other workforce development training; lifelong learning opportunities; industry certifications and refugee assistance services.
Total tuition cost for Maryland residents is around $7,600 while that of the out-of-state residents is around $19,500.

Listed below are the requirements that must be completed by all students seeking admission into the Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing Certificate Programs.
Prerequisites for admission into the nursing program include:
- All required developmental coursework (math, reading and writing sequence).
- Pre 100: Preparation for Academic Achievement.
- Completion of BIO 202, BIO 203 and BIO 212.
- A grade of “C” or better must be achieved in all science courses. Science courses must be completed within five (5) years of starting the nursing program. A science course can only be repeated once within five years.
- Minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 or greater.
- All students must have resident BCCC courses (minimum six credits).
- All students must take the current Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). The TEAS must be completed within one (1) year of starting the nursing program.
- All students must pass the Biology 101 Placement Exam.
- All students must meet the college’s computer literacy requirement.
