Nursing Program

The following curriculum in Amarillo College is designed for students seeking to enter the nursing profession straight away upon the completion of the 2-year course of study. The training program is endorsed by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) and certified by the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Completion of the A.D.N. training program of study provides graduates the chance to sit and take the national licensure examination (NCLEX) and apply for licensure as a registered nurse (RN).

The pupil must have a “C” in all essential courses to be able to advance to the subsequent level of the training program. An Advanced Placement Alternative is available for LVNs to transition into the ADN training program. Admittance to the Transition option is two times yearly (beginning with the Spring 16 semester, admittance will be in the fall and also spring semesters).

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

1. Apply for admission to Amarillo College
2. Attend an Application Orientation Session for the Traditional ADN Program
3. Take the HESI Admission Assessment Exam- Score 80 or greater on each of the three required content exams on the HESI Admission Assessment Examination at a single testing time
4. Submit an application for the Traditional ADN Program during the application period each fall or spring semester
5. Be eligible to enroll in a college-level math course and Anatomy & Physiology I

LVN Transition to ADN

1. Apply for admission to Amarillo College
2. Attend a LVN Transition to ADN Application Orientation Session
3. Take the HESI Admission Assessment Exam- Score 80 or greater on each of the three required content exams on the HESI Admission Assessment Exam at a single testing time.
4. Complete an application for admission to the Transition option
5. Complete all general education prerequisites for Transition
6. GPA of 2.5 or higher in the general education classes.
