Nursing Program

The Alvin Community College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) training program is endorsed by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) to provide an educational training program for people enthusiastic about a career as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Upon successfully completing training program specifications, graduates are competent to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Alvin Community College ADN graduates regularly perform above state and also national averages on the NCLEX-RN examination.

Pathways to the ADN Degree:

• Two (2) YEAR ADN Training program: This is the traditional route to receive an Associate Degree Nursing, which is created for the pupil to complete in 2 years. A new class of roughly 40 pupils starts each and every fall and spring semester.
• One (1) YEAR LVN-RN TRANSITION Training program: The training program provides a shortened route to allow nurses who are already LVNs to receive the Associate Degree Nursing. A new class of 10-20 pupils starts each June.

Alvin Community College primary campus is situated at 3110 Mustang Road in Alvin. Furthermore, a museum dedicated to the baseball career of Alvin’s most famous resident, Nolan Ryan, is situated on the Alvin Community College primary campus. Ryan studied at Alvin Community College, and then referred to as Alvin Junior College, during a few off-seasons earlier in his career. It was founded in the year 1948.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

1. You must be fully admitted to Alvin Community College
2. Submit an ADN application to the ADN department during the application period.
3. GPA = 3.0 or higher: If you have grades in any ADN curriculum courses at the time you apply, the GPA of those grades must be at least 3.0. Courses in-progress at the time you apply do not count in the GPA.
4. HESI A2 test scores = 78 or  higher (Reading &  Cumulative): Five sections of the HESI-A2  test are required: Math, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary & General Knowledge, Grammar, and Anatomy & Physiology.  You must make at least 78 for both the reading section and cumulative score.
5. Cummulative GPA of 2.5 or better in nursing and nursing curriculum courses.
6. ATTEND A MANDATORY APPLICANT MEETING- specific program policies and requirement held during the application period.
7. SUBMIT OFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS- Have all previously attended colleges and/or universities send official transcripts to the ACC Registrar by the nursing application deadline. No academic course with a grade below “C” is accepted for transfer credit in the ADN program.
8. Have completed or are in-progress in taking the prerequisites courses BIOL- 2401, BIOL 2401, PSYC 2301, and ENGL 1301.
9. Student are ineligible for admission if at the time of application transcripts reflects more than one (1) D or F in a nursing curriculum science course (BIOL 2401, 2402, and 2420) taken within five years of the application deadline.
