Nursing Program
The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) with a Major in Nursing degree in Aiken Technical College grooms graduates to provide direct patient care in a safe, efficient manner across several functions and readies pupils for licensure examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN).
The course of study consists of both theory presentation and also guided experience at affiliating health-care organizations. Pupils will be needed to take part in off-campus clinical amenities and therefore will need dependable transportation.
The nursing training program is certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) may also apply to progress with their education by taking a transition training course after which taking the final two semesters of the ADN training program.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- Applicants must have completed BIO 210, BIO 211, ENG 101, MAT 120*, PSY 201, and PSY 203 with a grade of “C” or better. Only the 1st or 2nd attempted grades of the prerequisite courses taken within the last 10 years will be considered for the scoring matrix. The grade of a “W” or “WF” will count as an attempt.
- Applicants to the LPN to RN completion program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (considering all academic course work, including prerequisites, within the last 10 years). Cumulative GPA will be calculated by ATC personnel upon receipt of application in accordance with the Health Sciences Division guidelines for GPA calculation.
- Applicants may not have achieved less than a “C” grade (D, F, or WF) in any two previously taken nursing courses with in the last 5 years at any school (LPN or RN).
- Applicants must take the TEAS exam prior to application to the program. This standardized pre-nursing aptitude test is offered at the ATC Testing Center (803-508-7488) for a fee of $70. The TEAS exam maybe taken twice per academic year with a minimum of 30days between attempts. The testing date must be within 3 years of the application deadline. A TEAS review book is available for purchase at the ATC Bookstore.
- Credit is awarded for eligible Advanced Placement (AP) coursework, provided valid proof is provided of successfully passing the related AP exam. Credit is also awarded for non-ATC exemption exams such as CLEP or DANTES. No admissions points are awarded for high school AP credit or for successful completion of a CLEP or DANTES examination.
- Applicants whose first language is not English must submit official TOEFL scores. A minimum score of 78 on the computer-based exam is required to be eligible to apply to the nursing program. English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are strongly recommended.
- Once admitted to the program, students must ensure that all necessary official transcripts have been received by the College and submit documentation of the following: a physical exam, TB skin test or chest x-ray for previously positive TB skin tests, current immunizations, current Healthcare Provider CPR certification, and annual drug screening.
LPN-AND TRANSITION
- Applicants must have completed BIO 210, BIO 211, ENG 101, MAT 120*, PSY 201, and PSY 203 with a grade of “C” or better. Only the 1st or 2nd attempted grades of the prerequisite courses taken within the last 10 years will be considered for the scoring matrix. The grade of a “W” or “WF” will count as an attempt.
- Applicants to the LPN to RN completion program must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 (considering all academic course work, including prerequisites, within the last 10 years). Cumulative GPA will be calculated by ATC personnel upon receipt of application in accordance with the Health Sciences Division guidelines for GPA calculation.
- Applicants must have graduated from a nursing program with a Diploma in Practical Nursing and possess a South Carolina Practical Nursing License that is in good standing with the Board of Nursing.
- Applicants may not have achieved less than a “C” grade (D, F, or WF) in any two previously taken nursing courses with in the last 5 years at any school (LPN or RN).
- Applicants must take the TEAS exam prior to application to the program. This standardized pre-nursing aptitude test is offered at the ATC Testing Center (803-508-7488) for a fee of $70. The TEAS exam maybe taken twice per academic year with a minimum of 30days between attempts. The testing date must be within 3 years of the application deadline. - Applicants must take the ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor exam and achieve a minimum individual score of 69.3%. This standardized pre-nursing aptitude test is offered at the ATC Testing Center (803-508-7488) for a fee of $65.The ATI
Comprehensive Predictor exam may be taken twice per academic year with a
minimum of 30 days between attempts. The testing date must be within one year of the application deadline.
- Prior learning credit for Fundamentals of Nursing (6 credits) is awarded through exemption credit earned after the successful completion of standardized testing in NUR 201.
- Applicants whose first language is not English must submit official TOEFL scores. A minimum score of 78 on the computer-based exam is required to be eligible to apply to the nursing program. English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are strongly recommended.
