Meet the Admission Criteria

1. All applicants are required to take the TEAS test (Test of Essential Academic Skills). Visit our TEAS page for information on what to expect and for a list of test dates, times, locations, and deadlines. Scores are good for 1 year from your anticipated start date.
2. Applicants must be at junior standing (60 semester credits/90 quarter credits).
3. 50 hours of work/volunteer experience.

(Please note: Sacred Heart and Holy Family cannot accommodate short-term volunteer opportunities or job shadowing. For long-term volunteer opportunities, contact their Volunteer Services departments.)

4. Favorable evaluation of all information in the application file by the Undergraduate Admissions and Progression Committee at the College of Nursing.
5. WSU University Common Requirements (UCORE) or equivalent course work must be completed prior to nursing admission.
6. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all college course work.
7. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in College of Nursing’s prerequisite courses.
8. Minimum grade for each prerequisite course – 2.0 (pass/satisfactory grades and CLEP scores are not accepted).
9. Prerequisite courses may be repeated. However, repeated classes planned or in progress at the time of application must be completed as planned. If you want to withdraw from the repeated course, please contact your Nursing advisor immediately for advisement.
10. No more than 3 prerequisite courses may be in progress during the final quarter/semester of lower-division requisite course work.
11. All course work must be completed by the end of the spring term for fall admission, or by the end of fall term for spring admission.
12. Virtual/online labs are not accepted. All lab courses must be taken in an on-campus format.

For admission to the BSN programs, applicants must fulfill all Nursing prerequisites and the WSU Common Requirements (UCORE) prior to enrollment in the program.

Nursing Prerequisites

• Anatomy and Physiology (Minimum two courses to total 8 semester credits or 10 quarter credits) Note: The two courses must be completed at the same institution to ensure full coverage of human anatomy and physiology.
• Chemistry courses with labs to include inorganic, organic, and biochemistry (Minimum two courses to total 8 semester credits or 10 quarter credits) Note: Only one chemistry course with a lab is required for the RN-BSN program.
• Growth & Development across the Lifespan (Minimum 3 semester credits or 4 quarter credits) Note: Developmental Psychology will be approved only if it addresses conception through death. Courses only covering conception through adolescent development will not be approved, unless coupled with a course covering adulthood through death. This prerequisite is not required for the RN-BSN program.
• Human Nutrition (Minimum 3 semester credits or 4 quarter credits)
• Introduction to Sociology/Social Problems (Minimum 3 semester credits or 4 quarter credits) Note: Only coursework specifically designated as a Sociology course covering Introduction to Sociology or Social Problems will be accepted.
• Introduction to Psychology (Minimum 3 semester credits or 4 quarter credits)
• Microbiology (Minimum 4 semester credits or 5 quarter credits)
• Statistics (Minimum 3 semester credits or 4 quarter credits)

WSU Common Requirements (UCORE)

A prior bachelor’s degree or approved transferable associate’s degree (DTA) automatically fulfill the UCORE, except for the Integrative Capstone [CAPS] to be completed at the College of Nursing. Without either of these degrees, applicants must complete a total of 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of approved transfer coursework for junior standing. In addition, students must have equivalent courses that satisfy the Writing [WRTG], additional Writing or Communication [WRTG/COMM], Arts [ARTS], Humanities [HUM], and Diversity [DIVR] proficiencies. The Nursing prerequisites usually satisfy the remaining UCORE.
