Nursing program

  • The HU School of Nursing offers undergraduate degrees leading to the BS with a major in nursing at both the Hampton Institute (major campus) as well as the College of Virginia Beach (COVB).

About the school

  • Hampton University (also referred to as HU, or even Home by the Sea) is a non-public historically black institution located in Hampton, Virginia, United States Of America. It was established in 1868 by black and white leaders of the American Missionary Association after the U.S Civil War to provide education to freedmen. In the year 1878, it established a training program for teaching Native Americans, which lasted until the year 1923
  • The school looking south across the harbor of Hampton Roads was established on the grounds of “Little Scotland,” one-time plantation in Elizabeth City District close to Fortress Monroe and the Grand Contraband Camp that gathered in proximity.

Total estimated cost of attendance is approximately $24,700

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  • Meet requirements for admission to the University
  • Highly recommended High School math and science cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher

Transfer Students

  • Meet requirements for admission to the University
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher from all schools attended

Additional requirement

  • The signed and completed application form for admission;
  • Application fee of $35.00 (non-refundable). Only cashier’s check or money order accepted;
  • OFFICIAL high school transcript;
  • Standardized test scores– unless applying using the Test Optional Policy (Reference above);
  • One letter of recommendation from your high school guidance counselor or a high school teacher.
  • An autobiographical essay, or a 250 -500 word response to the question:

  • A photograph that best represents you and provide a 140 character tweet length description about how the photo relates to you. (Optional)
