Nursing program

  • The BS in Nursing (BSN) training program at Lipscomb University is comprised of four semesters of prerequisite courses that are fundamental to the upper division nursing courses taught the following four semesters. After the pupil completes the four semesters of prerequisite courses, he/she must then formally submit an application for the nursing training program and complete four semesters of the classroom, lab and also clinical education specific to nursing. Upon completion of the prerequisite and also upper division coursework, the student will be granted a BSN degree.
  • Students who complete the training program of study will have experienced several clinical placements before graduation. This degree provides pupils with training in nursing education highly complimented by extensive research in the humanities and also social sciences. Thus, students are well-prepared to work as a nurse and also have the essential foundation to pursue masters and also doctoral studies in nursing.

  • Lipscomb University is a non-public, coeducational, liberal arts institution in Nashville, Tennessee, United States of America. It is associated with the Churches of Christ. The campus is situated in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville between Belmont Boulevard to the west and also Granny White Pike on the east.
  • Student enrollment for the fall 2016 semester is 4,632 which include 2,986 undergraduate students and also 1,646 graduate students. It also maintains a site called “Spark” in the Cool Springs area of Williamson County.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Before being admitted to the nursing program, a student must be admitted to Lipscomb University and meet the same criteria for admission to Lipscomb as all other students. In addition, a separate admission process is required for students to be admitted to the School of Nursing. Applicants seeking admission by transfer must meet all the standards required by the university. The APPLICATION DEADLINE IS: December 31st. Admission to the School of Nursing is based on the following factors:

Applicants will be admitted to the upper division nursing major after completing all pre-nursing prerequisite requirements. Admission is conditional upon successful completion of any outstanding requirements. Three letters of reference are required

Undergraduate pre-nursing grade point average: Applicants must have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA in the prescribed 66 hours of pre-requisite course work for the nursing program. All coursework must be completed in the spring and summer semester of the student’s sophomore year before beginning the nursing program in the fall semester of the student’s junior academic year. Please note: A student nurse must maintain a “C” average in any specific prerequisite course required for the nursing degree and in addition, must have a “B” grade average in the five prerequisite science courses listed below.

  • 2434 Anatomy and Physiology I

  • Chemistry 1024 or 1013 (choose one)
  • Chemistry for the Health Sciences

  • Introduction to Chemistry

  • NURS 3093 Pathophysiology Concepts of Disease

These specific prerequisite courses are:

  • Nutrition 2613
  • Psychology 1113, 2423, 4423
  • 1113 Introduction to Psychology
  • 2423 Life Span and Development
  • 4423 Abnormal Psychology
  • Mathematics 2183 or Psychology 2503 (Statistics- students must select one based on math ACT score)
  • 2183 Elementary Statistics
  • 2503 Behavioral Statistics
  • Medical Terminology (on-line, non-credit course) registration found on the Lipscomb Nursing website
