Nursing program

• The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) training program is built to be completed in 4 academic years and one summer. The course requirements in the BSN training program are rigorous. To be able to be competitive when applying for the upper division, pupils must be capable of performing well academically while completing 16-17 semester hours each semester. Factors that might present particular challenges to students include long distance commuting, family duties, or even financial need requiring over 10-15 hours of work per week. If such factors affect you, work with your academic advisor to develop a plan of study that matches your situation.
• The degree comprises of 4 components: General Education Core Requirements (GEC), upper division major courses, Nursing Cognate Requirements (prerequisites for the higher division major), and also electives sufficient for meeting degree requirements. Pupils must earn a total of 122 semester hours. To complete their Bachelor’s degree.
• Graduates of the traditional BSN training program are prepared to sit for the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurse.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

• Pre-nursing majors must earn and maintain a 3.0 or higher in order to remain a declared pre-nursing major. Students with a GPA below 3.0 must change to a major other than pre-nursing.
• Students wishing to change their major to pre-nursing from another major must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative UNCG GPA to do so.
• Incoming freshmen must have either: 1) an SAT Critical Reading score of at least 500 and an SAT Mathematics score of at least 500 or 2) an ACT Composite score of at least 21, to declare pre-nursing (PNUR) as their major. Incoming freshmen who are initially ineligible to declare pre-nursing as their major may change their major to pre-nursing after successful completion of 15 semester hours of coursework at UNCG with a GPA of at least 3.0.
• Incoming transfer and second-degree students must have a transfer GPA of 3.0 or greater to declare pre-nursing as their major upon admission to the University.

PRIORITY ADMISSION

Priority in admission (subject to space availability) will be granted to students who meet the following criteria:

1. Enter UNCG as a new, first-time freshman on a 4-year plan of study.
2. Earn and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 by the end of the third semester.
3. Complete all but one of the following required science courses:

• CHE 104 General Descriptive Chemistry II
• BIO 271 Human Anatomy (or KIN 291 Clinical Human Anatomy)
• BIO 277 Human Physiology (or KIN 292 Clinical Human Physiology)
• BIO 280 Fundamentals of Microbiology and at least one of the following prerequisite courses:
• NTR 213 Introductory Nutrition
• STAT 108 Elementary Introduction to Probability and Statistics
• PHI 121 Contemporary Moral Problems or PHI 220 Medical Ethics or RCO 203 by the end of the third semester, with a 3.0 (B) or better in each course completed. Courses must be completed at UNCG.

4. Complete three (3) semesters at UNCG (minimum of 45 s.h.) All of the seven courses above, must be completed in order to matriculate into the nursing program.
5. Meet all other admission requirements for the upper-division nursing major.

Students who do not meet the criteria for Priority Admissions above, but who do meet the Minimum Criteria for Admission, may still apply for admission.
