• The initial step in advancing your nursing career is earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.). The Wayne State University School of Nursing has a long record of successfully establishing students to be leaders in their field. The graduates continually pass the state licensure examination (NCLEX-RN) at a rate significantly higher than both the national and also Michigan averages.
• Pupils who are entering nursing for the first time can start traditional BSN studies upon completion of the pre-nursing course criteria. At least 3.0 honor point average in prerequisite courses is needed for entrance consideration. The program is 3-years in length.
• Incoming first-year students who satisfy the minimum requirements are invited to apply to the College of Nursing’s highly selective BSN for Freshmen path. Applicants who demonstrate outstanding promise to advance through the rigorous 4-year/8-semester program will be accepted. After completing the curriculum, pupils are prepared to sit for the state licensure examination (NCLEX-RN).

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

• Admission to the College of Nursing is competitive. Not all applicants who meet the minimum criteria will be accepted. The College of Nursing has adopted a holistic admission process which considers academic metrics such as GPA and individual experiences and personal attributes. Transcripts are reviewed for patterns of withdrawals and repeated courses.
• A minimum overall prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or higher is required to be considered for admission. To calculate the prerequisite GPA, science prerequisites are weighted 55% and non-science prerequisites at 45%.
• Completion of all prerequisite science courses with a “C” or higher by the end of the Fall semester prior to the application deadline. All science grades (transcripts) must be received by Wayne State University Office of Undergraduate Admissions no later than January 31 of the application year.
• Applicants are allowed a maximum of one repeat in a prerequisite course, with the exception of repeats in science courses that were taken more than five years prior to application to the CON.
• Up to two, non-science, prerequisite courses can be completed during the Winter semester of the application year. Updated transcripts must be submitted by June 1 of the application year. Applicants must achieve a “B” or higher in each remaining prerequisite course.
• Conditional admission granted to students who are missing a prerequisite course and is contingent upon successful completion of any outstanding prerequisite course taken during the winter semester. Successful completion is defined as a final grade of “B” or higher. Grades less than a “B” will result in rescinding the offer of admission.
• The following courses/requirements are prerequisites for admission consideration for the Traditional B.S.N. program in the College of Nursing.

Applicants are eligible to apply to the B.S.N. for Freshmen pathway if they meet the following criteria:

• Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in high school coursework.
• Minimum of 22 on the ACT and/or 990 on the SAT.
• Students should also have completed:
• 4 units English
• 3 units of math (including Algebra 1 and 2 and Geometry)
• Science (Biology and Chemistry with labs) and
• 2 units of Foreign Language
• If the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required, receive a minimum 101 total score (minimum 25 Listening, 25 Reading, 25 Writing and 26 Speaking).

As part of the secondary application, applicants must submit:

• A 250-500 word essay.
• Documentation of a minimum of 10 hours of community service.
