Nursing program
- The objective of the undergraduate training program in nursing at UMass Lowell is to prepare professional nurses who have the capability to think critically, to make use of knowledge of relevant theories, as well as to apply the nursing process when caring for patients of all ages in various settings. Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- A completed Common Application or UMass Lowell Application.
- Your score from the Scholastic Aptitude Test* (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). The CEEB (College Entrance Examination Board) code number for UMass Lowell is 3911. (UMass Lowell is reviewing only the math and critical reading sections of the SAT).
- Your high-school transcript. Applicants should ask their guidance counselors to forward the transcript to UMass Lowell.
- One letter of recommendation from someone who is familiar with your abilities and experience (a teacher, guidance counselor, coach, employer, etc.). If you are using our web application, please feel free to download the recommendation form
- A personal essay responding to a question on the Common Application or one of the questions below (250-500 words):
- What do you do in your spare time?
- What is the greatest challenge your generation will face? What ideas do you have for dealing with this issue?
- Formulate the perfect admissions essay question and answer it.
Admission Requirements RN-BSN
To be considered for acceptance into a bachelor’s degree program offered through the Division of Online and Continuing Education, students must hold a high school diploma or have passed either the GED® or HiSET®. Online and Continuing Education operates on a rolling admissions basis and each application is reviewed when the student’s file is complete. Students must be admitted to a degree or certificate program in order to be eligible for most financial aid.
Nursing Requirements
Admission to this degree completion option is open to Massachusetts licensed RNs, providing their license has not been revoked, suspended, or made probationary as result of a disciplinary action. Registered nurses transferring their prior college-level Nursing courses must have received a minimum 2.7 GPA in their prior nursing courses, science courses, and for their cumulative average.
