Nursing program

  • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree at Salem State University blends academic and also experiential learning. Grounded in liberal arts the BSN training program readies pupils for entrance into professional nursing practice and also provides the foundation for furthermore study towards an advanced degree in nursing. Students complete clinical practicums in various settings such as adult health, maternal child health, and in the community.   • Additionally, the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is meant for individuals who have a non-nursing Bachelor’s degree as well as wish to pursue a career in nursing. This thorough, 15-month, regular cohort training program starts May, Summer Session I, and also concludes August of the following year.
  • Following successful completion of the training program, students will be qualified to take the NCLEX-RN licensing examination, and also upon passing the exam, will be licensed to practice as a registered nurse.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Prerequisites:

  1. English- 4 courses
  2. Mathematics- 4 courses (Algebra I and II and Geometry or Trigonometry, or comparable coursework) including mathematics during senior year of high school
  3. Science- 3 courses (each with laboratory)
  4. Foreign Language- 2 courses (in a single language)
  5. Social Science- 2 courses (including 1 course in U.S. history)
  6. Electives- 2 courses (from the above subjects or the arts, humanities or computer science)
  • To apply to Salem State University, please submit a complete application, a non-refundable $40 application fee
  • Official transcript(s),
  • SAT and/or ACT scores- When test scores are submitted, we use a sliding scale based on a minimum grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) and a corresponding SAT or ACT score. If your grade-point average is 3.3 or higher and you have an SAT score above 1330 (20 on the ACT), you will receive the highest consideration.

Accelerated Second Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN)

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university in a non-nursing program completed by Summer Session I of the year in which you are enrolling. (suggested GPA 3.5)

  1. Applicants who are graduates from a non-U.S. college or university are eligible to apply if the following two conditions are met:
  • A complete, official transcript documenting the award of a bachelor’s degree. All transcripts from institutions outside of the United States must have an approved agency’s evaluation of courses, grades, academic degrees, and grade point averages. Four approved agencies include the Center for Educational Documentation, World Education Services, Inc., North American Educational Group, or Educational Credential Evaluators.
  • If your Bachelor’s degree is from a non U.S. college or university must also complete the MASS Transfer Block at a Massachusetts Community College with the official stamped transcript on or before the start of Summer Session I (May 1) of the year in which you are enrolling.   1. Applicants must have all prerequisites completed by the beginning of Summer Session I. However, an applicant may be enrolled in up to two prerequisite courses at the time of the application deadline. Completed transcripts must be submitted prior to the start on the program in May.
  2. Required prerequisites courses include: Anatomy and Physiology I and II (with labs), Microbiology (with lab), Chemistry (with lab), Statistics, and Developmental Psychology (childhood through adulthood). Students must have grades of B- or better in prerequisites.
  3. All science prerequisite courses completed within the last seven years. Most online science courses, including Biology, do not transfer.
