The School of Nursing at Emory University offers various pathways to earning a BSN degree, providing the correct fit for different backgrounds and objectives.

• High school students: The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing offers an unparalleled four-year undergraduate nursing experience. Pupils accepted to Emory University as first-year students benefit from a nationally-ranked school steeped in tradition. • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Transfer Option is accessible to students who transfer into the School of Nursing with sixty semester hours of college course credit, and it provides them with a firm footing for beginning a career as a registered nurse (RN).
• The Accelerated BSN training program is a regular, campus-based training program that enables students to earn a BSN in fifteen months. Only pupils with bachelor’s degrees in other disciplines meet the criteria for this training program.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

To complete your admission file, the Emory University Office of Undergraduate Admission requires the following:

• Common Application or Coalition Application
• A $75 application fee or application fee waiver
• Official high school transcripts
• Official college transcripts, if applicable
• Official scores from the SAT and/or the ACT; if English is your second language, it is highly recommended that you submit results from the TOEFL or IELTS
• Testing Codes: SAT/TOEFL: 5187; ACT: 0810
• Secondary school report/counselor’s recommendation
• Two teacher letters of recommendation
• Mid-year report (due January 25 for EDII; February 15 for RD applicants)
• Home-Schooled Applicants: In addition to meeting all admission requirements and submitting the required results from the SAT or ACT, we request that home-schooled applicants also submit results from three SAT II subject exams—one in mathematics and two of the student’s choosing. Additionally, we require at least one letter of recommendation from someone other than a family member. We also encourage home-schooled applicants to submit a comprehensive explanation of their curriculum.

Freshman Option- Emory and Oxford Students:

To be considered for admission to the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, you must submit the following items:

• The $50 application is waived for current Emory and Oxford students
• Official transcripts from institutions outside of Emory University

• CHEM 150 Structure and Properties with lab
• BIOL 141 Foundations of Modern Biology I with lab
• MATH 107 Intro to Probability and Statistics OR QTM 100 Intro to Stat Inference
• NRSG 201 Human Anatomy and Physiology I (+)
• NRSG 202 Human Anatomy and Physiology II (+)
• NRSG 200 Human Growth and Development (+)
• Additional coursework totaling 60 credit hours*

Required Prerequisites (OXFORD COLLEGE)

The prerequisites for the BSN program include 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college course credit. You may submit an application for admission with the courses in progress, but all prerequisites must be complete with a grade of C or higher by the time you plan on beginning the nursing program. Please review the prerequisites below:

• Mathematics / Quantitative Reasoning (MQR) – 4 hours
• MATH 117 or MATH 111 or QTM 100
• Science / Nature / Technology (SNT) – 16 hours
• BIOL 121 (with laboratory)
• BIOL 122 (with laboratory)
• BIOL 141 or BIOL 120 or BIOL 155 (with laboratory)
• CHEM 120 or 141 or 150 (with laboratory)*

All courses taken in this category must have a laboratory component

Social Sciences (HSC) – 4 hours

• PSYC 205

Electives – to reach 60 semester hours (required for nursing admission) or 64 semester hours (required for graduation from Oxford College). Total number of academic credit hours (60 or 64) does NOT include PED hours. Can include any combination of these courses for a total of 20-24 credit hours:

• Any SNT courses
• Any HIST, ECON, or POLS courses
• Any HAP or HAL courses

Emory and Oxford students must obtain a GPA of 3.0 cumulative and 2.8 science/math to receive automatic entry into the BSN program. Students whose GPA is less than a 3.0 cumulative and 2.8 science/math will be required to have an extensive review of preparation by the Admission Committee and will not be guaranteed admission.

BSN TRANSFER OPTION REQUIREMENT

To be considered for admission to the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, you must submit the following items:

• Application for Admission
• $50 Application Fee
• Official transcripts from each school attended
• Students with international transcripts must provide an evaluation from World Education Services (wes.org).
• Resume
• Official test score report, which includes TEAS, SAT, ACT, or GRE
• Only one of the test scores listed is required
• Students with test scores older than 5 years are encouraged to register for the TEAS Test
• TOEFL scores are required if English is a second language

The average GPA for admitted students is 3.5. Students are encouraged to submit SAT, ACT, or GRE test scores that fall within the 50th-99th percentile of all test takers. Individuals taking the TEAS are encouraged to obtain adjusted individual total scores of 90%.

Accelerated BSN REQUIREMENT
