Suny-Onondaga Community College ADN-RN Nursing Program Prerequisites & Reviews

Nursing Program

The Nursing training program at Onondaga Community College (OCC) offers an associate in applied science degree which is certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

The training program grooms pupils for entry level into the profession of Nursing. Upon successful graduation, graduates of the training program earn an Associate Degree in Applied Science for Nursing (AAS) and are qualified to sit and take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN).

Graduates of Onondaga’s nursing training program find a job in hospitals, nursing homes, home care organizations, community or perhaps ambulatory care functions and also industrial clinics.

About The School

Onondaga Community College (OCC) is a certified, two (2) year educational school that serves Onondaga County, New York, USA, at 2 campuses.

A part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, Onondaga Community College is among the thirty locally sponsored community colleges in New York State. The institution was established in 1961 in Syracuse, New York, USA. Onondaga Community College unveiled its first Residence Halls in August 2006.

Total estimated program cost is USD $21,454

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. An overall cumulative average of 2.6, 77, or C+ or higher from the student’s most recent high school or college experience. (Grades will not be rounded and better than a C is required).
  2. A high school diploma or its equivalent.
  3. Placement into college-level English and reading at Onondaga.
  4. Successful completion of placement tests demonstrating placement in MAT 114, within two years prior to matriculation into the Nursing program as determined by Onondaga mathematics placement test or equivalent coursework.
  5. Successful completion (minimum grade of 77 or C+) of one year of high school chemistry (If New York State, must be Regents level), or CHE 151, general chemistry or equivalent transfer credit. A laboratory is not a required component for these courses.
  6. Successful completion (minimum grade of 77 or C+) of one year of high school biology, or BIO 151 or BIO 152 or BIO 121 (preferred) at Onondaga. A laboratory is a required component of these courses.
  7. Designated level on standardized nursing preadmission test (TEAS).
  8. All students participating in clinical or laboratory courses must be able to perform all of the essential skills as outlined in this catalog.

*A competitive process is used for admission to Nursing with points assigned to specific criteria. Admission will be offered to qualified students in ranked order from highest to lowest, beginning at the review deadlines until all spaces are full.
