Nursing Program
The associate of arts degree in nursing equips graduates for an occupation as registered nurses, with the prospect to transfer to Maryland public colleges and universities to acquire the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program.
The clinical section of the Traditional RN program starts in the fall (evening/weekend and day options) and the spring (day only) semesters, and lasts for two years. Applications are only received for the fall semester.
About the school
Howard Community College was established in 1966 and is usually referred to as Howard CC or HCC, is a community college located in Columbia, Howard County, Maryland.
It offers more than 100 credit programs and non-credit classes through its Division of Workforce Development and Continuing Education. The college has satellite campuses in East Columbia (Columbia Gateway Business Center) and Laure.
The Board of Education founded Howard Community College in Howard County, and it was officially endorsed by the Howard County Commissioners J. Hubert Black, Charles E. Miller, and David W. Force. The board suggested that the College would function under a separate budget than the school system. HCC was accepted as the State of Maryland’s 14th community college in the late of 1967.

Steps to Apply
- Sign up to attend one of our nursing information sessions.
- Submit an HCC application for admission.
- Take placement tests, if applicable: Students may be exempt from the placement test if they have transcripts showing completion of college-level English and/or math at another institution OR have standardized test scores, such as SAT math and verbal scores above 500 within the last two years
- Pass the Clinical Nursing Admission Assessment. NEW—Effective Spring 2017 the minimum qualifying score on the HESI Clinical Nursing Admission Assessment score is an overall 70%.
- To be considered under the first admission period, applicants must complete this assessment and all prerequisite coursework by February 15.
- To be considered under the second admission period, applicants must complete this assessment and all prerequisite coursework by the end of the Spring semester.
- Complete the required coursework with appropriate minimum prerequisite and overall GPAs.
- Submit official college transcripts from all colleges attended: Complete an Official Transcript Evaluation Form and submit to the Office of Admissions and Advising (RCF-242).
- Complete the supplemental application for admission to the Traditional Registered Nursing Program and submit to the Office of Admissions and Advising (RCF-242).
The application fee is $25. The application cycle for nursing runs between September 15 and February 15 of each school year, with the February date as the final deadline.
