Nursing program
The Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) at Baton Rouge Community College is a 72 credit, five (5) semester program intended to offer learning opportunities for students to obtain the essential skills, knowledge, competencies and values needed for a professional, safe nursing practice.
The syllabus is designed in accordance with the National League for Nursing Educational Competencies for Graduates of Associate Degree Nursing Programs. Successful candidates will acquire the Associate of Science in Nursing degree, and get qualified to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), which is a must to practice as a registered nurse (RN).

Baton Rouge Community College is a two-year post-secondary community college founded in 1995 in Baton Rouge County, Louisiana. It moved to the 60-acre permanent site in 1998.
The institution current boast of over 7,000 students enrolment. Baton Rouge Community College offers career education for lifelong learning, developmental education, community education programs and services, transfer to four-year colleges and universities, workforce and continuing education programs and distance learning in addition to collegiate.
The college offer courses and programs that lead to an associate degree, transfer credits and certificates.
Total program cost for residents is about $12,450 while the cost for non-residents is $28,900.
Admission Requirements
The following courses are prerequisites for admission to the Nursing program. Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all of the prerequisite courses listed.
MATH 101/110 College Algebra
ENGL 101 English Composition I
BIOL 230 Human Anatomy and Physiology I
PSYC 201 Introduction to Psychology
Art or Humanities Elective from “Approved General Education Courses” published in the college catalog
In addition, to be eligible for entry into the Nursing program, students must:
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or higher in the 16 credit hours of prerequisite courses above.
- Achieve a score of 75 or better on each section of the nursing admission exam, with a composite score of 75 or higher.
