Southwestern College ADN-RN Nursing Program Prerequisites & Reviews.

Southwestern College is a public, two (2) year community college situated in the city of Chula Vista, California, USA. Established in 1961, Southwestern College serves roughly 19,000 students yearly.

The Southwestern Community College District, situated south of San Diego and also expanding to the U.S.—Mexico border, is among the 72 community college districts in the California Community College system. It serves as the main source of college education for roughly 400,000 residents of the South San Diego County region such as the communities of Bonita, Chula Vista, San Ysidro, Imperial Beach,  Nestor, Otay Mesa, National City, Palm City,  Sunnyside, and Coronado. The college started offering classes to 1,657 students in 1961, with short-term quarters in Chula Vista High School. Groundbreaking for the current 156-acre campus was in 1963 and by September 1964, first structure was completed, and classes were being conducted at the new campus on the corner of Otay Lakes Road and also East H Street in Chula Vista.

The campus is a feeder institution for pupils hoping to transfer to the two public universities namely: University of California and also San Diego and San Diego State University, and also a number of other private schools.

NURSING                           

Southwestern Community College Associate Degree Nursing Program serves a broad community of students and also provides educational preparation for the graduate in the function of a Registered Nurse and as a specialist associate of the health-care community. The Nursing Program provides educational possibilities that facilitate our students to advance from a beginner level of expertise to a graduate level of expertise in nursing competencies, clinical reasoning, and theoretical preparation. The training program promotes individual enhancement, community service and transfer for complex nursing educational possibilities. The Nursing Program promotes student learning and success by devoting to a nonstop improvement plan consisting of assessment, implementation, planning, and evaluation. The training program celebrates successes as our students advance in the program, in their complex degrees and as key associates of the Nursing profession.

Total program cost is USD $9,700

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Prerequisites courses:

  • Human Anatomy Bio 260 with lab over 2.5 GPA and taken within 10 years prior to
  • Physiology Bio 261 with lab over 2.5 GPA and taken within 7 years prior to
  • Microbiology Bio 265 with lab over 2.5 GPA and taken within 7 years prior to admission.
  • Reading & Composition ADN 140 (preferred) will also accept equivalent English coursework (i.e. ENGL 115) with over 2.5 GPA
  • Intermediate Algebra Math 60 with over 2.5 GPA.
  • You must pass completed the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS Version 6) prior to application with 62% score or higher.
