Victor Valley College (VVC) is a community college in the southeast corner of Victorville, California, United States Of America, part of the 112 campus California Community College System. The Victor Valley, Community College District, includes Apple Valley, Victorville, Hesperia, Phelan and Adelanto.
The college was developed by a vote of the public in 1960, and the very first classes were conducted in 1961 at Victor Valley High School in an abandoned building. The 253 acre (103 ha) campus commenced construction in 1963 and was opened up to students in 1965.
During the 1990s and 2000s, the campus experienced numerous upgrades as the resident population of the High Desert improved, most notably an Adaptable Physical Education Structure, Complex Technology Structure, an expanded Performing Arts Center, Gymnasium, Library, Planetarium, and the Student Activities Centre.
The institution provides approximately forty (40) major courses of study, with the most common being Liberal Arts, Registered Nursing, and Business Management. Other majors consist of vocational subjects in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Electronics, Welding, Music, Digital Animation, Computer Information Systems, Fire Science, Automotive Repair, Construction Technology, and Criminal Justice. As a junior college, Victor Valley College issues associate degrees.
NURSING
The Victor Valley College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program provides guidance and training to produce qualified, knowledgeable, graduate nurses that provide excellent nursing care to the public. The program allows students to take the NCLEX examination in order to become a certified Registered Nurse (RN).
The nursing graduate is qualified to practice nursing at virtually any entry level in various settings, including critical care, medical/surgical, geriatric, Maternal/child, psychiatric, perioperative, and oncology.
The objective of nursing includes assisting the individual, ill or well, in the performance of those exercises which lead to attaining an optimum standard of wellness. The responsibility of the nurse is to act as educator, manager, and professional provider of care in a speedily changing health-care environment.
Total program cost is USD $7,200
Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- All courses, including prerequisites, must be completed with a “C” or better (“C-” is not acceptable).
- Must be completed before applying to the Nursing program (5 units each)
- Biology 211, Human Anatomy
- Biology 221, General Microbiology
- Biology 231, Human Physiology
- Transcripts from other institutions will be evaluated for course equivalencies.
- If English 101 was not completed at VVC, a competency test in the VVC library will be required for graduation.
- Physical Education Any PE course of 1 unit or more will satisfy this requirement.
- Psychology 101/H101, Sociology 101
- Choose one: Math 90, 104, 105, 120, 132, 226, 227, 228, 231, 270
- Complete the Assessment Test.
- Meet with a Counselor to obtain your educational plan.
- Qualified applicants will be notified when they are approved to take the TEAS exam. TEAS results from other colleges are also accepted ONLY if transferred to VVC.
